Adil Baguirov does a lot in service to his adopted community of Dayton, Ohio. There is little doubt that his personal mission of giving back to his community has played a key role as to why he felt strongly enough about running for a position on the Dayton Public Schools’ Board of Education in the first place. It is almost certainly why the folks in that district elected him; they obviously agreed he was a great choice. If there is one thing that is sure, it is that Adil Baguirov has at least met and probably exceeded any expectations the people of Dayton had for his service on the Dayton Public Schools Board of Education since he was elected in 2013. Since his election, he has been very active with the rest of the board and he has led a number of initiatives that have positively transformed Dayton Public Schools in many ways. The school district is now more responsible and financially accountable than it has been in a very long time and, most importantly, their educational outcomes have improved. In his youth, Adil Baguirov exhibited an immense passion for education. He faced a crossroads in his own life when, as a teenager in the Soviet Union -- in the land today known as Azerbaijan -- his educational endeavors nearly took him to Moscow for law school following high school. However, an opportunity to study in the United States presented itself and Baguirov made a decision that forever changed his life; he chose to pursue studies in America. This desire for an education carried on well beyond his graduation from the University of Southern California in 1999. Adil Baguirov shared his hopes for a worthwhile education system with the voters as he campaigned then subsequently won membership with the Dayton Board of Education in Ohio. He also continued his own education, earning a PhD from MGIMO University. Adil Baguirov has certainly made a difference since he became a member of the Board of Education of Dayton (Ohio) Public Schools. Before he arrived on the scene, the Dayton Public Schools district was looking at a state takeover, but now, he and the rest of the board have significantly modernize the system, placing the district in perhaps the best shape they have been in several decades. In their latest state report, the district received an "A,” thus averting the possibility of a state takeover. At his heart, Adil Baguirov considers himself to be passionate about his community of Dayton, Ohio, which is why he feels it is important to make sure he helps his community of Dayton as much as possible. To him, education, technology and fiscal accountability as the keys to building a strong community. During his 2013 campaign for the board, Adil Baguirov made three very clear and succinct campaign promises, all of which demonstrated what he thought was the most important aspects of community. One was to bring better technology to the Dayton school system. Among the specific improvements Adil wanted was better computers for students in the classrooms, but he also wanted special software to provide academic support for students and a mobile app for parents, to keep them more informed and more in control. Adil Baguirov also promised to provide students with a better cultural and academic curriculum, as well as a higher level of transparency and accountability with school district finances. Adil Baguirov’s background makes him well suited to help his community. After all, he owns one of the best logistics and transportation companies in Dayton and he is also a very successful commercial real estate investor. On the education side, he has authored numerous academic books and articles and he is highly valued as a public speaker and lecturer. That he wants to help Dayton so much is really good for them. Throughout his four years, so far, with the urban Dayton Public Schools Board of Education, Adil Baguirov has helped to take the second-poorest school district in Ohio from a position where there were very close to having to deal with a state takeover to a position where the same district received an "A" on their last state report, thus averting the state takeover. They’ve done a lot of good so far and they hope to do a lot more. That is because Adil Baguirov is passionate about his community and he feels it is important to help it out as much as possible. To him, education, technology and fiscal accountability as the keys to building a strong community and the schools are a fine place to start. Besides his ownership of a premier logistics and transportation company in north Dayton and a prolific commercial real estate investor, Adil also has authored many academic books and articles. He is a very popular speaker and lecturer and he has moderated academic conferences and played a key role in research at several think tanks. |
